What All Should be Included in Experience Certificate
An experience letter is a
document that certifies that you have worked with a company for a specified
time on a specific position. In several instances, employers ask Experience
Certificate to ensure that the experience that a candidate mentions in the
CV or resume is accurate.
Experience Certificate is also important in
Visa processing, if you are going overseas for job purpose or if you are
looking for another job. The content of the letter will also depend on the
reason for which you need the Experience Certificate.
For instance, if
you are leaving your job, then the letter must contain the starting and the
ending date of your job tenure. However, if you need it for Visa processing and
you are not leaving the job, then the letter should only verify that you are an
employer of the company from a certain date.
The main points to be included
in an Experience Certificate are:
- Name of the employer, designation of the employer, and name of the company
- Date when the letter is issued should be included after the name and address part
- The main body of the letter should mention that the employee, to whom the letter is concerned, is or was employed in the company (name of the company), from (starting date of employment to date of resignation) on the post (job title, or name of the position that the employee hold in the company)
- A remark from the employer is also included after giving the details about the employee and his employment tenure. This can be like ‘He or she displayed diligent and truthful behavior and we found him/her hardworking and sincere.’ At times, a summary of the employee’s work history is also included in the body, for example, ‘The person was appointed as a trainee but with his hard work was promoted to the post of team leader and is leaving from the post of manager’.
- Some employers also add a line wishing all the best to the employee for the future
- The letter ends with name of the employer and his job title
The content included in the body
of the Experience Certificate might change with different situations and
companies, but what is important is that this letter should be written on the
authentic letterhead of the company. Only then, it is considered genuine and is
accepted for visa processing or by other employers, as many candidates also
submit fake certificates.
The format in which an Experience Certificate
is written is mostly same, with minor changes here and there. The latest format
of experience letter is also available easily, so you can check whether your
letter is according to the latest format or not.
Apart from the format, another
thing that you have to consider is how you will get the Experience
Certificate. Usually, the Experience Certificate should be granted when
an employee leaves the company or if an employee request for it for the purpose
of Visa Processing.
However, to receive the Experience Certificate, one
has to write a formal application to the HR or the concerned department, (check
out the format of the application for issuance of the experience letter
here).
Once you submit this application,
your HR manager or who so ever is authorized to issue the letter, should
prepare the letter on the company’s letterhead and hand it over. Remember that
the experience letter is a very important document as it is a proof of your
expertise and experience that you have gained over the years.
